Art Imitates Life

I saw this painting recently as part of the Master of the Spanish Still Life at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

"Melendez often created compositions based on meals served at a particular time of year or based on the religious calendar. This masterful painting presents the essentials of a Lenten meal: eggs, vegetables for a stew, garlic, spices, and a bit of cod."
